Is calling the man Hispanic to describe what he looks like a racist statement or not?

When i just came here, i never made a big deal about race, due to the fact that where i lived, we were all Haitians and it didn't matter what our skin color was, were we were born nor what color our eyes or hair was. We were all equal in every possible way. Black, white or yellow we were all people, friends and family living in the same country and going through the same thing its not like we had a different education for different races, or you could get jobs because you were white. Race was never an issue. The only time we might have talked about race was in middle school where we studied that there were 3 races: White, black and yellow.

So when i moved here, and i heard Hispanics saying they were not white but Hispanic, i taught that was the most ignorant thing because Hispanic is not a race. So no I definitely don't think it's a racist comment, because they didn't even mention the persons race in the description. And plus that makes no sense to be all concerned about the way they described the person because i always hear descriptions of criminals starting by it was a black man... and i don't see anybody complaining about it, that's what a description is, describing the person and the most details possible, because the more information you give about the suspect, the better chances you have of getting him caught.
